I\'m running Windows XP Professional with an Intel Celeron 1.30ghz processor. I have a 20gb hard drive with 15gb space available and a DSL line. I\'ve been working with computers for 22 years. I\'ve organized many local teach-ins, demos, forums, bus trips. My friend builds websites for a living and is willing to help out to get the job done.

This is the notice I sent out to all the local groups and I received very positive responses:

There will be a lot of cross-postings and I\'m sorry about that but I want everyone to be aware of this notice/request.

I\'m in the process of exploring the possibility of opening an Independent Media (Indymedia) Center for SW Florida along the lines of the worldwide network of Indymedia Centers found at www.indymedia.org

On this site we can upload event notices, videos, photos, letters, essays, poetry, music, newsflashes, etc. to share with everyone and hopefully break through the sound barrier of the local corporate-owned and strictly controlled TV, radio and print media.

What the good folks at the main office want me to explore is whether or not there will be enough local support to warrant an IMC for this area. Please note that this is NOT a request for financial support.

If I get the blessings of the some or all of the organizers of the following groups I will proceed to the next step:

introductory_statement:
Most of the people in this area that I associate with are involved in social justice activism. We all realize how the totalitarian corporate mainstream media have taken the American mind and shaped it into a pro-war, pro-corporate right-wing nightmare. They have been turned into unthinking, unquestioning, fast asleep, consumerized / corporatized robots.
We need to take back the media, to expose the myth of a \'free press\'. With an Indymedia website we can diseminate REAL news, information, event notices etc. People are hungry for some truths and we plan to bring it to them.
I believe if we can create a worldwide indymedia center movement we most certainly will have our revolution. It is do or die time. Frank
