Ugh, thanks for heads-up, but what is this supposed to mean?
Here is how it appears to me:
A single person applies for registration of his site with the Indymedia
network, even though the site does not support open publishing, and
bears almost no content, except for nationalist symbolics and pro-EU
rhetoric, showing apparent lack of resources contrary to the claims
otherwise. No connection to local or Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish
activists: local and regional media activists are not even remotely
aware that someone has applied to register Belarus IMC.
My personal conclusion: this one is fake. (Disclaimer: I am not a member
of New IMC Working Group, and I know nothing about Ales Haiduk.)
My perspective on the question of whether Belarus IMC is needed:
Currently, open publishing needs of belarussian activists are satisfied
by russia.indymedia.org, which serves as a meta-IMC for most of ex-USSR,
and allows publishing in Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarussian languages.
The level on activity on Russia IMC is (or was until this year) low
enough, even for an aged Active installation with no topical or language
division of content. Common understanding between activists I spoke to
was that creating a Belarus IMC would be a major undertaking, that most
of people who are qualified enough to support such site have enough on
their shoulders already, and that so far, Russia IMC is good enough.
On the other hand, amount of activity on Russia IMC is increasing
lately, so it might make sense to raise this question again. Should I
send the word out? I would love to hear comments from New IMC WG folks
on what is the experience with large regional meta-IMCs vs. small local
ones. Maybe it would make sense to start a Minsk IMC instead, and
encourage other cities to do the same? If it's best to have both, what
content should go where?
In solidarity,
