Hello Everybody,

I have recently been contacted by an friend that is currently travelling
through Thailand. He has been in contact with several activists and
actvist groups, amongst whom Matthew but also lots of local activists.
Thai people, people from ethnic minorities in Thailand and also a lot of
Burmese activists. They often talked to him about setting up an imc, it
seems to be something that really lives amongst acitivsts there, in
fact, the subject came up that often he took the initiative to mail me
and some other imc-people he knows.

He assures me its not a big foreign ngo type initative thing, but
someting that is definately an need for local activists.

It might be a long and rather difficult thing to get an actual imc on
line (or several, that still remains to be seen too) but there is for
sure enthousiasm to work on it, in spite of the difficulties that migth
be ahead (repression, limited possibilities of mooving around...) people
there have to deal with those anyway, imc or no imc, and an imc could be
a great tool to help them in communicating with the world.

I have discussed the matter with Jay, who doesn't have a lot of time
right now and I agreed to be the primary contact. He is still willing
to help out if needed. Bart is willing to help with tech stuff.

Solidarity,

Libby

>Indy Media has a standardized activism/media format that is working. It is simple to use, straightforward and clearly presented web data for countries and regions. Our goal is to set up a forum for internationals who want to assist the democratic process in Thailand and a forum for activists in Thailand to be able to contribute to, while we think it would be unlikely to locate such a site on a Thai server.
