[New-imc] Introducing Gary M

[Gary Meyerhoff]

Hi people

I have asked to be a new member on this list and have
been asked to provide an introduction. I am a
collective member for the new darin indymedia
(http://darwin.perthimc.asn.au).

My name is Gary Meyerhoff, I am 29 and have been
involved in various community campaigns over the last
10 or so years. I grew up in Perth, Western Australia,
at 16 joined the Royal Australian Navy, and after 3
and a half years made it back to perth.

I moved up to Darwin in the Northern Territory in 1999
and have been heavily involved in grass roots
campaigns there.

I have an interest in ending the war on drugs, because
I am an illicit drug user. I am a member of the
Network Against Prohibition (http://www.napnt.org)
which is a grass roots activist group and also I work
part time and do volunteer work for Territory Users
Forum ( a group that I helped establish in 2000 -
http://www.tuf.org.au). I am also currently the
vice-president of the Australian Intra-venous and
illicit drug users league - an organisation based in
Canberra and I am involved in a number of
international networks working to end the war on drugs
and drug users.

I am currently studying law at university, but failing
miserably as I really don't put much time and effort
into it.

Currently facing 21 months in jail, suspended after 5
months for a peaceful entry into the legislative
assembly (parliament) in the Northern Territory in
2002.

I am HIV positive and have been for 10 years this
year. I do not identify as heterosexual and I use a
lot of drugs, and occasionally inject them, and I am
open about this.
