Activist Author Addresses Globalization and the Supply
of Food and Water
Dr. Vandana Shiva, an internationally renowned voice
on the critical issues of our times,
will give a lecture entitled WTO Reflections: The
Impact of Globalization on Food and
Water at the University of Washington on July 28th.
The physicist, ecologist, activist,
and author of many books will offer her perspectives
on the sustainability of life and
forces that threaten the ability of our civilization
to fully provide for its population. Dr.
Shiva was a prominent presence in Seattle during the
WTO meetings in 1999 and has
tirelessly labored for economic justice through
activism and education.
The lecture on July 28th will be preceded by a
reception and benefit for Bija Vidyapeeth,
the International College for Sustainable Living in
Dehradun, India which Dr. Shiva
recently founded. She has written over a dozen books,
has been the subject of print and
broadcast interviews, and has widely lectured on
issues encompassing bioethics,
agriculture, ecology, social justice, resource
allocation, and commerce on a global basis
and has criticized corporate actions and government
policies which undermine the health
of the environment and human populations.
