hey all --
i changed this headline as soon as i saw it, and the person who uploaded it that
way was spoken to about it, mentioning exactly the points you bring up. s/he
understands now why it was not cool, and won't be doing something like that
again. while portland indymedia has used the word "fuck" in headlines at least
twice (and probably will again), this was definitely considered inappropriate,
because it would be insulting to people of faith (and others), Christian and
otherwise.
btw, not only have there been features on pdx indy about Islam, but about
Christianity, too. some of us activists here are trying to build bridges with
faith communities, and we know this is all about respect. while criticism of
religious institutions is fair play, headlines like this that insult peoples'
personal faith are definitely unacceptable. you won't see it again on pdx indy.
