       POF Expands Public-Sector Support Program

Since 1999, the Fund and over a dozen international 
unions have partnered on finding, training and applying 
previously unavailable staff resources. At least half our 
time has been devoted to public sector partners. In 
2003, POF expands its focus to include the myriad 
affiliates at the local, district or regional level that also 
deserve timely support on critcal organizing projects.

Beyond new organizing, POF support necessarily 
includes such difficult but important organizing work as 
protecting contracts, locals, units and members; 
internal organizing and rebuilds; grassroots electoral 
support and training; and much more.

       POF Recognizes Field Organizer Union

In October, after a quick and voluntary recognition, 
Prewitt officers will sit down with the newly 
formed National Union of Professional 
Organizers.

In a brief statement, the Fund Board says: "We expect 
it will be a benchmark agreement - establishing terms 
for the work of a largely unheralded group of 
very good organizers and helping unions and organizers 
generally.  Some were forced to retire 
elsewhere, some are looking for a change, an 
opportunity or new career, a part time meaningful job 
and some may even be moonlighting.  But all share a 
common organizing bond.  They are a tremendous 
resource for labor and working famailies generally. We're 
honored to work with them."

       POF Board Votes to Expand - Advisory Board Slated

In a July 2 Board meeting, the current four-member 
POF board (with one new vacancy) voted to expand to 
nine and to launch the Organizer Advisory Board on 
November 1, 2002.
