[Seattle-editorial] Can you feature the story on Congress and these actions people can take?

Hello,

I work with IMC-DC and I asked DC’s editorial list to
feature the story on Congress, which they did at
dc.indymedia.org. Congress is voting not only on
whether we should go to war with Iraq, but also
whether they should give war powers over to the
Executive Branch. This is huge. Equally frightening,
Senators and Representatives don’t seem to be
listening very well to the high volume of calls.

The best advice from people like Erik Gusfafson from
www.epic-usa.org and Mike Zmolek from
www.endthewar.org is to step up the pressure. I am
working with Kevin Martin of Peace Action and Medea
Benjamin of Global Exchange (her staffer Andrea Buffo)
to set up an action in Washington Today. But all most
people can do from remote locations in the US is step
up the pressure of calls to our representatives and
step up email petitions.

I have some requests:

First, to you all as Indy reporters and editors: can
you feature the story or a version of it on your Indy
sites?

Second, can you make the link prominent [that is in
the story but not mentioned by name] about
www.thecriticalmoment.org that measures the public
response? This was built by Jenny Carden of DC IMC,
myself, and some of our friends.

Third, highlight the free long distance number to call
Congress 800-839-5276 and www.endthewar.org which
has the current best strategies on the home page.

Fourth, as ACTIVISTS can you get the word out to your
lists, to slam this 1-800 number, keep calling the
represenatives and make sure they register their calls
on www.thecriticalmoment.org?

Thank you so much for whatever you can do.

PS It took 15 minutes to cut and paste all your lists
into the TO: line. The U.S. Indymedia network is big!
Proud to be a part of this network of grassroots
journalism and action.
