hey there editorial staff of IMC seattle,
my group, Students for Fair Trade, has been organizing against the FTAA, and
are planning a demontration/solidarity fest the day that the Quito ministerial
beginns, on October 28. So far we have been having some considerable
difficulties in getting much interest in these times of war, which is completly
understandable, but nonetheless frustrating. (especially for a studnet group
with no resources!)
What we have been trying to focus on is that war and free trade are two sides
to the same coin, and that this will escalate permanent militarism throughout
the hemisphere.
Also another group that i am apart of, the Community Alliance for Global
Justice, is planning a two day conference on teh local and hemispheric effects
of Nafta and FTAA on NOv. 2-3.
Considering that free trade has everything to do with many issues currently
facing our communities, including the ILWU, the budget cuts, and the war, we
request that the FTAA, the summit in quito, the demonstration, and the
conference be given high priority on the IMC page. Going where the silence
is...
If yall are interested, we could provide detailed info of the events....
thanks for your consideration,
Emily Reilly
