subtitle: STOPPING WAR BEFORE IT STARTS
title: Anti-War Movement Continues Despite Press Blackout

This weekend, major demonstrations against war on Iraq are expected to
attract many thousands in San Francisco, Washington DC and across the
country. Simultaneous anti-war protests will take place in many countries,
including Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany,
India, South Korea, Mexico, Japan, and
Puerto Rico. See the <http://www.internationalanswer.org">International
ANSWER Coalition</a> for information.

<p><b>In Seattle</b>, <a
href="http://seattle.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=19181">Anti-war
demonstrations</a> will take place at <b>Denny Park, at noon Oct. 26</b>.
The theme will be "Stop the War Before it Starts."

<p>The anti-war movement continues to be largely ignored by the national
press. National Public Radio devotes more airtime to discussing the
possible implications of war for American investments than to the certain
devastation of war for an <a
href="http://www.progressive.org/nov02/lan1102.html">Iraqi populace</a>
already devastated by US bombing and a decade of economic sanctions, and
the likelihood of further fueling anti-American sentiment in the Middle
East. In Seattle, the editorial staff of <a
href="http://seattle.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=19160">The
Stranger</a> has been among the most reactionary, demonstrating its level
of intellectual independence through racist invective against something
called "Islamo-fascism" and repetition of Bush administration arguments for
war.
