subtitle: THE SEOND COLONIZATION OF THE AMERICAS
title: 'Free Trade' = War on the Lands and Peoples of the Global South

On October 28 and 29, heads of state and trade ministers from 34 countries
of the Americas (only Cuba is excluded) will meet in Quito, Ecuador to
negotiate the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). Their goal?
The world's largest "free trade" zone, a unified New World of
privatization, deregulation, and corporate control over labor and
resources, at the expense of human rights, the environment, and democracy.
In short, the FTAA opens a hemisphere-wide front in the corporate war on
the lands and peoples of the Earth.

<p>On Monday October 28 at 4 p.m., a Seattle solidarity festival and
demonstration against the FTAA takes place downtown in Victor Steinbrueck
Park On Saturday and Sunday November 2 and 3, the Community Alliance for
Global Justice sponsors a community conference, "ALCA NUNCA" (Spanish for
FTAA NEVER), from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the University of Washington School
of Social Work. <a
