Members,
A Volunteer Information Processing Meeting/Party will be held this
Saturday, April 19th, 2003 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Members and folks
with knowledge of internal imc goings on only, please. We will be holding a
formal Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, May 3rd, 2003 From 2:00 PM until
4:00 PM
This meeting will be held to work through the backlog of about 40 e-mail
web inquiries and perhaps 100 paper applications to join our fine little
group-The Seattle Independent Media Center. At the meeting, we will be
calling and e-mailing these eager media hopefuls (helpfuls?), giving them
the lowdown on our Mission and Values, Projects and Folkways.
This is the time to solve one problem many of us have reiterated until blue
in the face: Why so much talk, so little participation in our work. We're
journalists, radio people, etc. Talk is what we do. We are are also,
sometimes first and formost, an activist organization. Acting is what we
must do. So, make like an activist, and just show up.
Working groups, such as RadioX, GUS, Space; all are needed to explain the
nuts(Myself included) and bolts of SEAIMC. I can give a great explanation
of what Space stuff is about, but we'll be served best if when we find an
application for, say, a Tech type person, a Member with Tech Skills makes
the call, or is available to talk for a minute or three on the phone.
If you have unlimited weekends on your cellular, like me, please bring it
along. Bring your spunk as well. Oh. and a bottle of wine and a cracker or
two would make the day seem 'aglow'.
This is vital, serious stuff, and if you want more participation for your
area of interest in the IMC, show up, take names, and kick ass.
Jeremy will be avilable to assist in getting the information gleamed from
this process into our new database-That's what I'm talking about. Not just
collecting information, but working toward our goals with people who have
taken the time to contact us. We asked them to by placing the online form
on our website, and the paper application on our front desk. They did their
part.
Let's show them, or at least tell them what we're made of!
Who's Media - The Peoples' Media!
P.S.
IMC List Moderators should feel free to cross-post this e-mail carefully.
Peace,
Joseph
