Eds,
NYC has posted their Newswire maintainence policies. They get a great deal
of abuse in the City. Here they be.

Subject: [imc-us-process] open publishing; decision making criteria
hi everybody,
this is chris a with nyc-imc (hello josh) ... I'm not
an official liason for new york but i've been lurking
on this list since it started.
interesting discussions about open publishing and
decision making / process criteria, etc. its
especially interesting to see how many imc's face
exactly the same problems across the country. i think
having this list will be really useful.
the imc-nyc print team has a very lengthy "newcomers
packet" that goes over imc history, the process of
putting together a paper, etc. this isn't up on our
website yet, but it does include a brief bit on who
gets to make a decision. basically, we simply asked
people who hadn't been participating in thje group to
"voluntarily" exclude themselves from the consensus
process when we are discussing particularly
controverisal issues. we havn't had this come up much,
but the one or two times we did, it did pretty much go
like that.
once we actually have this up on the web, i'll be
happy to send along a link.
regarding open publishing: the ny-imc started to get
tons of anti-arab and anti-jew postings since the
spring of 2002. we also get obnoxious postings from 3
or 4 people who consider themselves ny-imc
"personalities" (basically, little more than trolls).
we we way to slow in cracking down on this, but just
this past july we consensed upon some newswire
moderation guidelines. the guidlines were then posted
as a feature. they and the discussion that followed
them can be found here:

best,
chris
