title: Seattle Activists Plan to Stop Bush

Seattle activists have begun
planning for George W. Bush’s visit to the Seattle area on Friday,
August 22nd. Although complete details of his trip have not been made
public, media reports indicate that he will be at fundraising luncheon in
Bellevue on the 22nd. He may also be visiting a salmon hatchery on that
day. Planned protest events in Bellevue and Seattle are expected to draw a
wide range of citizens who are upset over the Bush administration’s war
against Iraq, environmental policy, attitudes towards gays, slashing of
social programs, curtailing of civil liberties and
other issues. Activists have called for decentralized direct action by
affinity groups on Friday in Bellevue; or group mobilization using new
organizing methods such as "SmartMobs."
