Hello,

I am writing to ask you and your organization to join in a growing
grassroots effort to defend freedom.

As you may know, over 140 resolutions defending the Bill of Rights have been
passed by bodies of government in communities throughout our country. These
resolutions oppose the USA PATRIOT Act and other erosions of our civil
liberties while affirming the support for the rights of all people in our
communities. Anti-Patriot Act Resolutions have been adopted by cities,
counties, universities, and even by three states - Alaska, Hawaii, and
Vermont. Locally, Seattle, Bellingham, Bainbridge Island, Port Townsend,
San Juan County, Jefferson County, and the student bodies at both Washington
State University and University of Washington have passed resolutions
defending our civil liberties.

We hope that the more communities that pass resolutions the less likely that
Patriot Act II will be passed. Also, the government needs to know that we
will not tolerate any more attacks on our civil liberties, in particular the
attacks on immigrant communities and people of color.

Individuals and organizations concerned about civil liberties are working to
have the King County Council adopt a resolution which is attached to this
email.

Please encourage your organization to endorse the King County Resolution. If
you or your organization is interested in endorsing the resolution, please
contact me via email (abdallah at aclu-wa.org) or at (206) 624-2184. Also, if
you or your organization is interested in gathering signatures for the
petition drive that is in process right now, please contact me.

You can also contact your County Councilmembers and tell them that you want
them to defend our civil liberties by supporting the resolution. (You can
locate your Councilmember at
http://www.metrokc.gov/mkcc/members/members.htm)

A wealth of information about the USA PATRIOT Act and other recent attacks
on freedom is available in the "Safe & Free" section of the ACLU Web site at
www.aclu.org and at the ACLU of Washington's website at www.aclu-wa.org.

Thank you for your continued support and for taking an active role in
defending all of our civil liberties! Also, I apologize if you have
received this email more than once.

Thank you,
Devon Abdallah
