[Seattle-editorial] Personality

I would have some of the same problems with Geov Parrish writing for
Indymedia currently.

I'll try to keep this short, lest I repeat myself too often. I don't trust
Jonathan. He wrote an article for RTM in which he accused currently active
members of being paranoid isolationists, who are hiding their actions from
the public.

None of this is true. All actions of the currently active membership have
been made through the usual process of attending general meetings. This is
where decisions are made and recorded at the IMC. Spokes council decisions
were made in spokes meetings and brought back to the general meetings for
public disclosure.

Where's the paranoid isolationism in those actions?

For those of you that think this is all about be not liking Jonathan, or my
personality, you are mistaken. I haven't liked or trusted Jonathan for quite
some time, but until he started attacking active members of the IMC, using
his own RTM site, rather than the IMC site, I never wrote a word.

However, if Jonathan cared to get editorial responses from active members,
he would have posted his editorial to the IMC, to this Editorial list, which
he claims now he is a part of, but claimed in the article he was a former
member of. But he didn't do that, did he? He hasn't shown up to meetings, he
hasn't been participating, and he used his own pet website to attack current
volunteers who are working their butts off to help the IMC through a
tremendously rough period of time...Volunteers who have done a hell of a lot
more for the IMC than any of Jonathan's defenders here on this list have
done for the IMC during this same period of time.

You folks can blame this fight all on me if you want. But I did not go on
the front page of Indymedia and start shouting accusations a Jonathan.
There's a difference between making statements on a listserv and making
statements in a frontpage news article.

Friends, I've got to tell you I see a lot of the letter "I" in these
posts. The collective have given you two a wonderful opportunity to
assassinate one another's character in public (much as religion has been the
enabler for three major to ignore the reason they each cherish Jerusalem and
just resort to killing one another over it). The rightness of the thing
you're defending does not make either of you right by association. No, it
just makes that thing less right. Kinda' small-minded of both of you, to
tell the truth.

Gentry, when you pinged the list last month to see who was still
listening, I hit you right back asking what was up. Your response to me was:

There's scant few people actively doing much, and I was just wondering why
there's like 70 people on the list, and like 2 of us that do all the
writing/editing.

I don't make a habit of speaking for others, but purely from a personal
perspective this response is exactly the reason why I don't do more, and
won't until things sort themselves the f**k out over there. It's laudable
that everyone has so much of themselves invested in IMC, but when it gets to
the point of squabbling and self-aggrandizing personal ownership matters I
back right up off of the thing. As long as any of us feels 'entitled,' it's
not a collective: it's a clubhouse. Forgive me if I don't want to play.

      From the website:

"Editor, active editor. A member of the editorial collective who has
gained
the trust of other members by participating in editorial discussions, by
attending regular meetings, by internalizing the core values of Seattle
IMC
editorial policy, and by committing himself or herself to those values
and
to the health of the collective."

Jason you have attended meetings recently. Jonathan has not. You can
call it
BS if you want, but I did not write the policy. I just adhere to it,
without
attempting to subvert it due to my own personal friendships and
alliances.

Until Jonathan starts attending meetings again, he is not an active
member
of the IMC according to the structure in place and online since I
started at
    the IMC.

I beg your pardon. I did leave editorial group for a spell, but have
certainly been participating again. Three feature proposals last month,
three this month. I'm sure you don't mean to challenge my member status?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jonathan resigned from editorial. Why is
he

    now
again considered an active member? Has he attended meetings? Has he been
    helping the collective?
