The Seattle Committee Against Repression in Mexico invites you to….

EZLN: 20/10: Fire and The Word / El Fuego y la Palabra

Save the date and plan to join us, along with people around the world in 
celebration of the Zapatistas’ 20th anniversary of their formation and 10th 
anniversary of their resistance.

20 years ago in a place in the jungles of Chiapas a movement took its first 
steps which would turn the world upside down with a message of hope and 
revindication. In the darkness of night rebellion was woven, until on the 
1st of January, 1994 we all became aware of an army, its majority 
indigenous, which took away the voice from the powerful and boycotted the 
neoliberal fiesta. 20 years of their foundation and 10 years of their armed 
awakening, we celebrate the gesture of “los mas pequeños”: the struggle and 
resistance of women, men, children and the elderly of the Zapatista Army of 
National Liberation.

We will have...
• A special screening of Rebeldía magazine’s documentary, 20/10 El Fuego y 
la Palabra. The documentary, El Fuego y La Palabra, produced by Rebeldía 
magazine from Mexico, commemorates the 20th anniversary of the foundation of 
the EZLN and the 10th Anniversary of their uprising. This “clear, energetic 
and precise” is a story composed of smaller stories in images: a dance, a 
theater play, a soccer match, a sweeping military helicopter, the taking of 
San Cristobal, the tragedy of Acteal, the displaced communities, the 
confrontations… “fragmented and seemingly local” stories which give a 
coherent string of events which give importance and drama to their political 
presence in the world and legitimacy for their struggle of resistance.

• The traditional dinner will consist of a delicious pozole and condiments. 
We will have pozole for our Vegan compañeros as well!

• Live music entertainment and drinks with silent auction.

• And of course it wouldn't be a celebration without dance and music to 
bring in a new year of hope and movement to create “A DIFFERENT WORLD WHERE 
MANY WORLDS CAN FIT.”
