To whom it may concern:
We are writing you to ask for your help in forming a media coalition of organizations and individuals dedicated to a campaign of
anti-propaganda and a movement to engage the mass-manufactured media conglomerates. As you may know, the global anti-war
movement is rapidly growing. In January 2003 we saw a half-million people marching in DC, almost a quarter million in San Francisco, and
dozens of simultaneous actions here in the States and abroad. These organized protests have been growing at a rate that most are
estimating far exceeds the state of the anti-war movement directly before the US went to war in Vietnam, and yet the mass media has not
been covering our movement as anything more than passing or "fringe" news.
You probably know all of this already, better perhaps than we do. Here in Seattle and the Northwest, we often have been on the forefront of
activism--what we lack in numbers we make up for through enthusiasm. On February 15, a coalition of anti-war organizations in Seattle has
made a commitment to stage another mass convergence rally in solidarity with the anti-war demonstrations being planned across in the
globe on that same day. The Seattle organizations organizing the local event include The Not In Our Name Project , Act Now to Stop War and
End Racism (ANSWER), Sound Nonviolent Opponents of War, The Hate Free Zone of Seattle, The Green Party of Washington State, reBirth ,
the Praxis Artist Network, American Friends Service Committee, Church Council of Greater Seattle, NW Labor and Employment Law Office
(LELO), and the No War Against Iraq Coalition.
We are contacting you because we believe that now is the time to come together, to bring all of our organizations' and individuals' strengths
together in creating media that can be released after Feb 15 as a counter propaganda campaign. We would like to invite you to be a part of
this effort. You can join us by volunteering to donate footage of February 15th events all around the world so that we may have our own proof
of numbers and events and hopefully, the resources from which to create a film about the day. We also need people willing to film, to edit, to
organize, to donate equipment, to direct us to useful resources, or endorse our efforts organizationally or by just spreading the word.
If you are committed to fighting the war machine through media, please contact us. Let us know what you are doing. Let us know if you are
willing to help us. Even advice and phone numbers are helpful.
Yours in struggle,
Jessica Anderson Matthew Kwatinetz
