Tape News Broadcasts

The Media Literacy Working Group is organizing a Seattle television news
monitoring
project, and we're looking for a few talented people gifted in the fine art
of VCR programming!
We will be recording the evening broadcasts of local TV news for the four
network affiliates for two weeks, and need volunteers to tape these news
programs. In an ideal world, volunteers can give the IMC a little extra help
by recording the programs on their own, unused video cassettes. If you don't
have fresh tapes, or need the IMC to provide tapes, we can make that work,
too, so don't let that stop you from volunteering!
This project is a great opportunity to examine how the local news is (not)
living up to its mandate of serving the community, and to add to a growing
body of evidence on the local broadcast media in communities around the
country. As the FCC considers rolling back restrictions on media ownership,
such studies will support the protests of dissatisfied media consumers.
Ideally, recording will start this Monday, February 10th. If you can commit
your VCR for one channel for one week or two weeks, let me know how much
taping you're willing to do, and I'll set you up with a schedule.
Thanks!!!
