Free Speech TV Challenges Government's War Plans
National Network Reports on Growing Anti-War Sentiment Across the Globe

Free Speech TV, a national satellite TV network, has taken the unusual step
of dedicating much of its programming to the movement opposed to war against
Iraq. FSTV covers the mounting worldwide opposition to war with in-depth
investigation and analysis from sources often overlooked by domestic news
outlets.

Free Speech TV presents issue-oriented series that offer an alternative
perspective on the U.S. government’s foreign policy and national security
programs. It airs exclusive interviews with leading policy experts,
independent reports from American journalists in Baghdad, acclaimed
documentaries on U.S. interventions, and other programs that critically
examine U.S. policy. And broadcasts of Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now! provide
FSTV with daily pre-war coverage in the form of breaking news reports and
commentary on the growing anti-war movement.

John Schwartz, Free Speech TV’s founder and president, explains: “Just as
there is a burgeoning anti-war movement, there is a growing anti-war TV
movement, which includes FSTV, Worldlink TV, and independent video producers
from around the world.”

Free Speech TV airs its anti-war programming in a series entitled,
Mobile-Eyes: Who Wants War? This ongoing series features extensive analysis,
action alerts, and resource boards promoting the work of peace organizations
from around the world. In addition, independent producer May Ying Welsh and
other correspondents regularly present FSTV viewers with reports from inside
Iraq.

Recent line-ups have included original FSTV productions such as Good vs.
Evil: Bush's Theology of War, a critique of Bush’s doctrine on national
security; Strategy for Security or Blueprint for Empire, a round-table
discussion on the US-led war on Iraq, hosted by Laura Flanders; and David
Barsamian’s Media in the Service of Empire, a critique of the mainstream
media’s war coverage.

Hidden Wars of Desert Storm, a documentary that premiered in the past year,
is based on a two-year investigation of U.S. policies and interventions. It
exposes the Pentagon's extensive use of depleted uranium weapons, the
history of the C.I.A.’s relationship with Saddam Hussein, and many other
topics seldom discussed on American television. Hidden Wars features
interviews with Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf, former Attorney General Ramsey
Clark, former UNSCOM team-leader Scott Ritter, among several others.

Iraq: War Against the People, another recent premiere, documents the allied
forces’ systematic devastation of Iraq during the Gulf War. Other Free
Speech TV broadcasts include Good Kurds, Bad Kurds, a documentary profiling
the U.S. government’s treacherous and inconsistent Middle East alliances
since the launch of the Gulf War, and In Whose Interest?, a film that traces
the history of the U.S. military’s global expansion.

FSTV’s Mobile-Eyes: Who Wants War? campaign has also included coverage of
many of the demonstrations erupting across the globe, from the Americas to
Europe and Australia. On January 18, live FSTV coverage of the Washington,
D.C. convergence was uplinked to satellites internationally, and on Feb. 15,
FSTV will again offer free distribution of live coverage from the NYC peace
rally.

FSTV carries anti-war public service announcements produced by peace
advocacy groups around the clock. And in March, Free Speech TV reporters
will embark on a bus tour through the Midwest to report on war opposition
and resistance.

Free Speech TV is a non-commercial public interest network that can be
viewed 24/7 on satellite, part-time on cable community stations around the
country, and online at www.freespeech.org.

On occasion, Free Speech TV suspends regular programming for special
Mobile-Eyes TV programming that illuminates a critical issue through
original productions, acquired programs, and special web content. Created
with partnering grassroots organizations, these national “teach-ins” mix
crucial analysis with concrete steps for joining the growing movement for
progressive social change. Recent Mobile-Eyes campaigns have included
Mobile-Eyes Against Military Interventions, Mobile-Eyes On Creating Peace,
and Mobile-Eyes on Economic Justice. Mobile-Eyes: Who Wants War? is FSTV’s
current campaign.
