hi folks,

looking for a quick thumbs up (i've got two now, mine and JL's). Again,
i'll be stepping away for a couple of hours. If you see the third thumbs
up happen, and have the ability, please post this feature (i'd like to move
the MLK picture from the current top feature to this one. if we end up
with some nice photos from the candlelight procession, i'd like to use one
for that feature).  Thanks!

- Susan

subtitle: MLK WEEKEND: SATURDAY & MONDAY
title: Saturday's Anti-War Events Include Peace Potlucks, Bus Ad Benefit

While thousands march in <a href="http://dc.indymedia.org/">Washington
DC</a>, <a
href="http://sf.indymedia.org/archives/archive_week_redirect.php?day=13&month=01&year=2003#1090">
San Francisco</a>, <a
href="http://seattle.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=21508&group=webcast">Portland</a>,
and elsewhere in observance of the <a
href="http://dc.indymedia.org/archive/features/2003/01/2003-01.html#3084">National
Day of Action Against War in Iraq</a>, anti-war activists across the Puget
Sound area will be gathering at neighborhood-based "Potlucks for Peace."

Organizers see the potluck model as an opportunity to reach out to new
people; educate participants, build solidarity, gain organizing experience,
generate publicity, have fun, AND oppose the war in Iraq all the same time.
 From the Potlucks for Peace website: "Big marches are important and
useful, but it will be a long haul to build a national movement that will
affect government policy. This project is aimed more at a lot of people
doing organizing in their own community to build the movement and educate
expanding numbers of people."

To find a Peace Potluck in your neighborhood, see: <a

Directory</a>

Later in the evening, a "Jam for Peace" benefit will be held at the Ballard
Eagles Hall, 7:00pm - 1:30am (21+), proceeds to benefit the "No Iraq War"
bus ad campaign. The band lineup includes Kuli Loach, Happy Savage, and the
Transnationals, an all-star jam band featuring members of Dustcover, China
Rose, Napier's Bones, and June Rushing Band. For additional event details
