hi folks,
ok, here's the last of the "Urgent" last-minute features -- at least, for
awhile I hope ... maybe we can actually get ahead of the game :-)) again,
i'd like to move the MLK photo from it's current position to accompany this
feature instead. (still hoping we'll get to post a photo from the
candlelight march on the corresponding feature).

title: Dr. King's Holiday Inspires Activism In Support of Poor, Against War
Known as host to one of the perennially largest Martin Luther King, Jr
holiday celebrations in the nation, Seattle again welcomes the holiday with
a day full of social justice education, rally speeches, music, and
activist solidarity in the streets. This year's celebration theme, "MLK's
Call to Consciousness: Support the Poor, No More War!" brings the national
focus home to address poverty, discrimination, and militarization issues
in our own neighborhoods. The daylong events kick off at 9:30am, Monday,
January 20th, at Garfield High School (400 23rd Avenue at E. Jefferson, in
the Central Area) with a series of educational workshop and discussion topics.
<b>Morning Workshop Topics (9:30am):</b><br>
- Attack on Civil Liberties <br>
- Economic Empowerment in the African American Community in Time of
Impending War<br>
- Dr. King's Nonviolence and his Opposition to the Vietnam War<br>
- The Case Against the War in Iraq<br>
- Minorities and Labor Unions<br>
- Poverty, Public School Disparities, Disproportionate Minority
Representation in the Military<br>
- Police and the War on Minority Communities<br>
- Youth Organizing Against War and Militarism<br>
- Building a Multiracial Coalition Against War and Poverty<br>

From 23rd Avenue & E Jefferson, head south on 23rd toYesler. West on
Yesler to Dillings Way & 3rd Avenue. East on Dillings Way to 4th Avenue &
Yesler. North on 4th Avenue to Madison. West on Madison to 2nd Avenue.
