hi friends,

here's a start anyway. jonathan will have audio up within the day or so,
probably, and i know that more photos will be going up.

isn't it kinda weird that king5 tv, kiro tv, and komo tv are all using the
same coverage text on their websites? (i guess they're taking it off of
the AP wire, but really ... word for word, the same, as if they didn't have
their own writer/reporters down there). maybe it's just the easiest way to
cover the story quickly (filler) until they've finished their own stories.

huge kudos to the indymedia reporters on the scene!!! -- walt, brandon,
brodie, lambert, mahdi, jonathan .... and others i'm sure!! great work
everybody ....

subtitle: SUPPORT THE POOR, NO WAR!
title: 10,000-15,000 March Monday in Honor of MLK's "Call to Consciousness"

After <a
href="http://www.seattle.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=21492&group=webcast">morning
workshops</a> on a number of local social justice issues, and a
standing-room-only rally at Garfield High School, an energized crowd,
numbering in the thousands, filled the streets for at least 15 full city
blocks, winding its way through the Seattle's Central District and amassing
downtown for a second lively rally at the Federal Building.

Mild winter temperatures added to what was already a high-spirited day. The
marchers, diverse in age, ethnicity, and backgrounds (educators, activists,
professionals, legislators, unionists, clergy, families), walked, chanted
and sang with at least two shared sentiments in mind: no war in Iraq and
an end to poverty at home. In addition to the "Call to
Consciousness: Support the Poor, No War" signs, a <a
href="http://www.seattle.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=21578&group=webcast">variety
of messages were displayed on signs & banners, some of them waved in front
of drivers at the I-5 overpass, with regular honks of support in response.

Rally speakers included, among others, King County Councilman Larry
Gossett, Dustin Washington, Youth Undoing Institutional Racism speakers,
Senator Patty Murray, Governor Gary Locke, & Mayor Greg Nickels.
