The number of active editorialists has been shrinking, no doubt. I perform newswire maintenance as often as I can, and put forward hide proposals that have been approved by default (i.e. by 24 hours' silence). I certainly could use hrlp from other ed. collective members.

The NYC editorial policy is fine, but we already have a policy in place which is at least as powerful. I'm not aware of anyone among Seattle editorial folks making the kind of "anti-censorship" arguments you mention--I think it's mainly a problem of too few people participating in the work of newswire maintenance. If you or others are able to help combat the current newswire problems by re-activating your editorial membership, let me know and I'll help however I can.

The editors of and participants in this project trust that other participants will use the newswire to publish news, or, at the least, intelligent and insightful commentary. But as New York Indymedia’s popularity has grown, so has the abuse of our open publishing system. Some of the abuse seems to be juvenile in nature; some it amounts to a deliberate attempt to destroy the project. What’s more, an unsystematic and scattershot moderation policy may have confused other readers, who might not be aware of what constitutes abuse and what constitutes news.

This disregards a growing body of evidence that the site/space are on the way to becoming less than welcoming.
