subtitle:DEMOCRATIZING MONEY
title: Making Plans for a Seattle Community Currency
What's wrong with our current money system? How can a community currency
promote a healthier, more just economy? A group of Seattle activists and
small business owners are leading an effort to introduce a community
currency into the Seattle economy. This new form of currency, issued by
participants in our local economic community rather than by exploitative
national banks, will remain in the local economy and encourage local self
reliance and sustainability. On July 1, author <a
href="http://circ2.home.mindspring.com/tgbro.htm">Tom Greco</a> will speak
about the nature of money systems and how the power of money can be
harnessed to build healthy, sustainable communities. Other speakers include
<a href="http://www.davidkorten.org">David Korten</a>, author of When
Corporations Rule the World and Post-Corporate-World, and Essential Baking
owner Jeff Fairhall, who is leading the effort to launch a community
currency in Seattle.
