Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself as the new Community Organizer. Maritza
Rivera, the former Community Organizer, left the position earlier this
month. I work on issues related to 9/11 - FBI interviewing of Arab and
Muslim Americans, INS Special Registration, Patriot Act...
At this time, I would just like to reiterate some of the ACLU's services as
related to the effects of 9/11.
With the FBI questioning persons from the Iraqi community, the ACLU can
provide an attorney for persons being interrogated by the FBI. We also have
a flyer with basic information on FBI questioning with our contact
information, as well as two other local organizations'. If you would like
the flyer, please contact me and I will forward it to you.
The ACLU is exploring the need for attorneys to accompany individuals when
they go to the INS for special registration. We are also in the process of
putting together a flyer on INS Special Registration which would include
some of the questions that a person would be asked at the registration.
ACLU provides speakers and/or public presentations on INS Special
Registration, Know Your Rights - FBI Interrogation/Police Questioning, Civil
Liberties since 9/11 amongst numerous other topics. Please feel free to
contact the ACLU for a speaker.
Also, do not hesitate to contact me. It is also beneficial to keep the
lines of communication open. If you or your community has any information
that you think the ACLU would find useful - people's civil rights being
violated, targeted communities being interviewed by the FBI or police...,
please contact me. We are here to help you.
If you would like to be removed from this email distribution list, please
contact me and I will do so.
Thank you,
Devon Abdallah
