In response to Brandon's question from last night:

the blue event box which used to accompany the top feature was something
we developed about a year and a half ago--the idea was to list upcoming
IMC events right below the top feature.

How it works: html code for the box and its contents are just appended to
the bottom of the newest feature. When a new feature is posted, the info
in the box gets updated, and the box is removed from the former top
feature, so there's only one box visible. A little cumbersome, but
appreciated by readers and good publicity for IMC space events and CTC
courses.

If the box is gone from the front page, there's probably still one in the
archived features somewhere.
