Hello,

With 3 states and 197 cities, towns and counties already having passed resolutions, we are hoping that King County will pass a resolution in defense of the Bill of Rights and our civil liberties and civil rights! The King County Bill of Rights Resolution will be introduced to King County Councilmembers on Monday 27 October with Councilmembers voting on it shortly thereafter!

In the mean time, we would appreciate everyone contacting your Councilmember and urging them to support this resolution. (You can locate your Councilmember at <http://www.metrokc.gov/mkcc/members/members.htm>; the Eastside Councilmembers with their contact information is listed below as well). Either phone or email your councilmember; there is a sample email below that you can cut and paste if you so desire. You do not have to be a voting citizen to voice your concerns to your Councilmember only a resident of King County!

It has come to our attention that the Republicans may be hesitant to support the resolution, so it is imperative that Eastsiders contact their Councilmembers and ask them to support the resolution.

It has also been suggested that you frame your comments in the positive versus negative, i.e., do not blame the Bush Administration but urge your Councilmember to support the civil rights that our country was founded upon. Also, you may want to mention that numerous conservatives and Republicans, including Senator Larry Craig of Idaho and Representative Larry Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, have voiced their concerns about the USA PATRIOT Act and other government policies since 9/11 (see attached).

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. A copy of the resolution can be found at http://aclu-wa.org/SafeAndFree/ResolutionsInProgress.htm. Also, please forward this email to your organizations and groups. If you have received this email more than once, I apologize; you may be on more than one email distribution list.

Thank you,
Devon Abdallah

Dear Councilmember

Nearly 200 cities and counties across the United States and 3 States have already passed resolutions supporting the Bill of Rights and re-affirming their commitment to civil rights! I have learned that a King County Bill of Rights Resolution will be introduced soon to the King County Council. I hope that you will support this resolution as a reflection of King County's affirmation of King County residents' civil liberties and civil rights. Nationwide, numerous Republicans have voiced their concerns regarding the USA PATRIOT Act with some asking the USA PATRIOT Act to be modified or allowed to die in two years.

Thank you,
