A brief and probably incomplete summary of what was discussed today at
the 6p editorial meeting:

attendees: Jeremy, Gentry, Walt, Judy

We reviewed last week's discussion of highlight versus summary features.

We covered two topics:

TECH
------
Codebase migration issues.
We agreed it was worthwhile for us as a group to review the background
that Brandon posted in
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/seattle-editorial/2003-September/003562.html

Further discussion of codebase features, requirements etc should be
pursued -- but we need to cover institutional memory first. Consensus
that moving off of Active -- and to something that puts more control in
the hands of the editors (and not only the techies) is needed.

OUTREACH
---------
Judy suggested that we be doing more outreach to other alternative
presses. Suggestions: swap ads/links, go to them and encourage them to
publish.

Brainstorming of other groups to reach out to: Sun, ETS, Tablet, Real
Change, Seattle Small Press. Gentry says he has a link he'll send to
those interested in his index of these.

Gentry provided a conceptual division:
  * outreach to encourage posting to the newswire -- everybody's thumbs
up on this suggestion, too.

  * links to other media, updating existing links on web -- this is a
good idea, but we don't really have the tech knowledge right now.

Further suggestions for outreach we *can* do (as opposed to that which
we'd just *like* to):
  * go out and teach activist groups how to use the newswire -- Judy
  * does this count as CTC training? -- Judy

Wrapped up at 7p sharp so that the finance meeting could begin.

See you next week!
