Hello,
With 3 states and 160 cities, towns and counties already having passed resolutions, we are hoping that King County will pass a resolution in defense of the Bill of Rights and our civil liberties and civil rights soon! The King County Bill of Rights Resolution will be introduced to King County Councilmembers Monday 15 September! While we do not know when they will be voting on the resolution, we are assuming it will be within the next couple of weeks.
In the mean time, we would appreciate everyone phoning your Councilmember starting Monday 15 September (but not before) and urging them to support this resolution. (You can locate your Councilmember at <http://www.metrokc.gov/mkcc/members/members.htm>). Also, please forward this request on to your email groups.
Also, I just wanted to thank all of the organizations and individuals who have endorsed the resolution* or have helped on it! In particular, the individuals and organizations who have been gathering signatures deserve thanks -- American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee - Seattle Chapter, American Friends Service Committee - Seattle Chapter, Amnesty International USA - Seattle, Eastside Suburban Peace Network, Seattle International Human Rights Coalition, and Sound Nonviolent Opponents to War (SNOW).
At this time, it would be greatly appreciated if you could mail the completed petitions as soon as possible - just photocopy the petitions and mail the original signatures to 225 N 70th Street, Seattle, WA 98103. If you are unable to mail the petitions, we can arrange to pick them up from you. We plan on photocopying the signed petitions and presenting them to the Councilmembers. In the mean time, please continue to gather signatures and educate the public on the King County resolution and the USA PATRIOT Act.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!
Thank you,
Devon
