OK, since I can't drum up much excitement for John Chuckman right now -- although I do think it is important to feature and introduce new writers; I'm taking another stab at featuring something for 9/11.  How about Chomski -- this from Toronto (news that wouldn't make it in the US press):

text:  The National Security Strategy declared that the United States, alone, has the right to carry out "preventive war" — preventive, not pre-emptive — using military force to eliminate a perceived threat, even if invented or imagined. 

Preventive war is, very simply, the "supreme crime" condemned at the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals.
