[Seattle-editorial] [Fwd: editorial policy link]

One place where I think the policy as-is seems unclear is "zero-content".
Well are we referring to "blank" posts, or are we referring to "non-news"
items?

I personally would like to hide non-news items as it decreases the utility
of the site, and inane comments as "stories" I and I believ others consider
to be "blank" stories as well, but I don't think this has been the case in
the past. I don't mind inane comments so much, unless they violate other
rules as well.

Instant hides--I would implore everyone who hides posts to please email the
whole group with a link, and your reasoning. I hate not knowing why an
article was hidden, even if it was a duplicate, or spam, or whatnot, when I
see it in the hidden column I would like to recall an email on the subject.

Editorial policy review:

The short version of the policy:
http://seattle.indymedia.org/policy.php3

The longer version of the policy:
http://seattle.indymedia.org/newswire-hide.php3

The first link is available from the front page, the second is available
from the first.

Short summary:

Insta-hide:

   * no spam
   * no zero-content posts
   * no duplicates

Thereafter, the four principles we try to keep in mind when looking out
in the newswire for junk or trouble (in tight summary):

  1. unmoderated, open publishing
  2. safe community space
  3. insurrectionary response
  4. utility

There are longer versions out there.

Hope this is useful!
