[Seattle-editorial] Fwd: imc research

I accidentally sent the message below to global editorial. It was
intended for the Seattle editorial group.

I know that there have been disputes about how to proceed re: notifying
the larger community. Some kind of compromise must be reached on this
issue before we have people showing up at 1415 3rd ave for our next
"meeting" on March 2, as implied by our website.

Could someone please put up an explanation on the website, or at least
a link to the newswire post, about the current state of affairs here?
The post/article should include some notification to people that our
space is closed and that we are NOT having a general meeting on march
2nd, as the woman below seems to think.

Hi

I'm trying to contact the Seattle IMC without much success. I can't
pick anything up through the contact link on the website and the
telephone mailbox is full. This means, no doubt, that you're very
busy, which can only be a good thing.

I'm a UK academic, based for a short time in Victoria BC, and am
conducting research into the indymedia movement. I've published widely
on activist use of the internet and am currently writing about
indymedia, with the aim of developing a clear idea of who writes for
the sites and why. I'm also interested to know whether the global
franchising (I use the term loosely) of indymedia has any impact -
positive or negative - on the sense of collective endeavour within the
movement.

I am planning to visit Seattle and would like to attend the IMC
meeting on 2nd March. I would also like to conduct interviews with
people currently publishing on, or who have previously published with,
Seattle indymedia. In addition, I'd like to talk to some of the people
at the frontlines, as it were, who are involved in putting the site
together.

I would be very happy to meet with anyone on this list who is able to
discuss these issues. NB interviews would be fairly informal; I'm
trying to build a picture of the people involved with indymedia, not
have people follow a rigid formula for discussion.

Many thanks for your time.

Jayne Rodgers
