I think that most IMCs have editorial policies that allow them to hide certain articles or comments.
at michigan IMC for example, we hide the following:
# An author requests be hidden
# Are repetitive or duplicates
# Appear in an unreadable format (i.e. photos posted as text) or are titled "test"
# Advertise products or for-profit services
# Use excessively grotesque words or imagery
# Are obviously false or misleading. This includes attempts to spread disinformation or to impersonate another individual
# Use language, imagery or other forms of communication which promote racism, fascism, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism, able-ism, age-ism or any other form of discrimination
# Are off-topic or are not news
# Are unintelligible
# Flood or Spam the newswire.
