Hello IMC friends,
I should have looked at my calander, I got the
days mixed around and went out to go to the
meeting last night. Now I have other commitments
tonitght.
It may be just as well. Personal stuffs got me
feeling jaded right now and it would suck if I
said insensative things to people.
I know my words are just a lone comunity member's
but I probably represent a large number of
comunity members when I say that I don't want to
see the IMC disapear.
I want the IMC to have regular office houres and
a physical space where the general public can
come and work on media projects. Wide access to
the tools of mass comunication is the primary
goal. Restricting access to people who can get
to a computer and onto the internet is
restricting access a lot. I want to see the IMC
take on the space offored it in Ballard and have,
not just storage, not just event space, but
regular houres with media production and
distribution tools available to the general
public.
If these things are possable it seems to me to be
petty and selfish to let personality conflicts
get in the way of it happening. The world needs
to be in comunication!
I've been to several meetings where the subject
has been discussed, and it is still a mystory to
me exactly who did what to who. My god, you'd
think it was something criminal by the sense of
resentment and distrust in the air. Maybe it
really was, and it breaks my heart to think about
it, but can't democratic process rectify such
situations? I can't accept that the injured
parties could be so petty as to be demanding
retrobution even at the expence of the entire
community. To me moving for the IMC to no longer
exist at all is exactly this. From my
perspective the SeattleIMC is known by name in a
way that makes available to it the means to offer
to the community something the community needs.
Although I hartely aggree that people must be
respected and community facilities must be
accountable to all of the community, I also feel
strongly that the present oppertunities to
continue developing a network of communication
must be utilized. Deal with the spicific issues
and at the same time move on with the general
goal!
One last thing. Consensis is cool, but
democratic process seems like a fare compromise.
This country's got coorporations that have taken
control to a large extent, and are making war on
all humanity! The magnitude of the situation
demands action! The only answer I see is for
unifide action on a global and mass scale.
SeattleIMC can help make this happen. I vote to
honnor the will of the majority and move on with
that potential.
