Members,

As SeattleTech is in need of more IMC’sta power, we require access
to the information on the Arendt server. Financial information is
also stored there, and is required to do the necessary record
keeping, such as updating our ledger as we spend or receive monies.

Talking with S.B., the issue from tech is that a networking setup
of some type is required for secure access and complete
functionality. That is to say, someone will have to agree to house
the Arendt server and allow it to be connected to at least one
other computer. The question becomes, who has a nice, stable
computer, and is willing to have others access the Arendt server in
their home or office.

Since the most critical function is financial, it makes sense for
one of the empowered money folks to house the thing. S.B.
mentioned putting it online, the ramifications of which I don’t
comprehend, except that security is a concern.

The VDD will soon be able to be accessed online anyway do to added
functionality being developed by the creators, which leaves the
financial data. That would seem to be the last thing we want
online, but perhaps I’m mistaken. The question: Who steps up to
take the server? As one who is familiar with the VDD, I can use it
with just a few hours at first, then say 1 to 2 hours every other
week. So can most others. I cannot offer to house it at this time.

This will be discussed at the Editorial meeting since the issue is
of critical importance to SeattleTech and they are invited to
attend.

Joseph
