The Editorial WG held it's formal meting on 3-21-04.

Attendees were: Walt, Benjamin, Mark, Laury, Tonieh, and Joseph.

Notetaker: Joseph

The meeting was casual, and well attended, as three new folks
arrived, including 2 folks who were not white males.

More time was spent on the ranking and rating of articles than any
other subject.

Much was discussed about the desireability of having the readers
rank and even hide articles from view by voting.

One member felt that we would be in a better legal position if the
'editing' of the newswire was done by the public in a consistant
way.

Also, it was suggeseted that we insert a check box on the publish
page telling folks posting to the newswire that their work is being
submitted for the use of SEAIMC, allowing us to edit or post it as
we wish. They would agree to this or not by checking. We reached no
decisions on this, but agreed to ask S.B. about the ranking and
rating functionality of Mir.

We talked about the importance of contacting writers when using
their work in ways that might alter it or use it in un-intended
places.

We noted that our 'open publishing' button which used to link to
our policies and proceedures is broken.

We discussed and agreed to look into Portlands editorial policy
with a mind to amalgamating some of their good activities into ours.

We discussed how the comments section affected our work and the
appearence of the newswire. We agreed to consider new ways of
limiting comments short of just hiding abusive ones. mentioned was
limiting the number, or the date after which comments could be
made. We did not make any decisions about comments.

We agreed to ask Nathaniel, Rick, and folks from RadioX to give us
an update on their efforts, and Mark was particularly interested in
building a radio or audio news show of interest to the readers.
Perhaps a compendium of audio from various sources.

Laury offered Flash, Graphics layout, and clerking services.

Tonieh offered with clerking the wire, and doing script conversion
and other services.

It was agreed that attending another Ed. Meeting would be required
for Mark, Laury, and Tonieh to receive passwords to the admin of
Mir.

We agreed to ask S.B about implementing the local newswire section
of the newswire, Ranking and rating options, and other technical
issues which we can talk about offline.

It was thus.
